This year we’re celebrating International Year of Biodiversity, so if you’ve not seen our spectacular outdoor exhibition by award-winning photographer Steve Bloom, get down to St Andrew Square. And while you’re there, check out our ‘must see’ event Sonic Dreams - a new, hyper realistic 3D sound system which fuses art and science.
Following a sell-out last year, our hit family venue, the City Art Centre will be open for longer in 2010, with brand new events added to our seven floors of fantastic fun. And on the Mound, we’ve teamed up with BBC One to bring you the Bang Goes The Theory roadshow from 8-10 April.
Young people can also get involved with scientific discussion and debate as part of our Big Ideas for Young Minds programme. Find out how to go green; discover the mysteries of the universe or explore the science of the food that on our supermarket shelves.
Don’t forget, the Science Festival isn’t just for kids! We’ve got something for all ages with exhibitions, screenings, theatre, comedy, debate and discussion. Our Big Ideas programme is full of special guests like Brian Cox, Richard Wiseman and Raj Persaud. Explore the Pyschology of Comedy, find out what makes a sinner and discover the hidden story of Medieval Arabic Science.
And if you’ve ever wanted to try out the activities at City Art Centre don’t miss our special no-children-allowed evenings where grown-ups can come along and enjoy a glass of wine. We’re even hosting a singles night for all you lovelorn scientists out there!
Also new for 2010 is SciFestSessions an entertaining and exhilarating line-up of events and experiments for young adults. Featuring BBC TV presenters; video games workshops; the wonderful world of yeast and even the physics of rock music; SciFestSessions aims to engage 15-18 year olds with the science like never before.
Our partners at Edinburgh Zoo and the Botanics have packed programmes of special events and activities to help you explore the worlds of plants and animals. To explore the exciting world of new media and informatics head to Inspace, the new gallery at the University of Edinburgh where you can watch footballing androids battle it out for the Robocup.
