Film3 - Maths at the Movies

Films explore every part of human and non-human existence. Mathematics is at the core of life, nature and the physical world. Film3 presents three rarely seen and very different examples of independent film making that bring together these ideas and take them further.
Immediately after each film there will be an audience discussion with specialists from a relevant field.

Though built on mathematical concepts all the films have at least as much to say about society as they have about maths.

  • Cube is a existentialist thriller that combines Jean Paul Sartre and computer games.
  • Pi looks at the effect of vested interests on a young and fragile mind.
  • Flatland the Film tackles our own race, gender, religion and globalization issues from a wholly new perspective! This is the film's UK Premiere!

Film3 is a collaboration between the International Centre for Mathematical Sciences, Edinburgh and Filmhouse Cinema.
