McEwan Hall

The McEwan Hall hosts the award of the prestigious Edinburgh Medal.

This year, the eminent Professor Chris Rapley, Director of the Science Museum, London and former Director of the British Antarctic Survey has been awarded the Edinburgh Medal for his contribution to public understanding of climate change science.

The McEwan Hall is part of Edinburgh University and serves as the venue for graduation ceremonies and other academic events. The semi-circular classical amphitheatre which seats 2000, is crowned with a huge dome over the main auditorium. The intricacies of the structure entailed lengthy building works and it took nearly a decade before it was eventually completed in 1897.
