Waves

Did you know?... Waves are created when wind blows across the surface of the sea. This causes friction and creates a swell in the water.

The size and energy of a wave depends on the strength of the wind and how long it has been blowing, and the distance the wave has travelled, called the fetch.

The sport of surfing originates in Polynesian culture. The first recorded European sighting of a surfer was in Hawaii in 1767.
