Ant Colonies

Did you know?... Ants are usually aggressive towards members of other colonies. However, nests sometimes group together to form "supercolonies".

A supercolony is a group of ants' nests which do not demonstrate aggression towards one another.

Until 2000, the biggest known supercolony was in Japan, but that year a bigger colony of Artgentine ants living in Southern Europe was discovered. The colony stretched over 3600 miles and included millions of nests and billions of worker ants.
