Did you know?... Flowers use their scent, colour and pattern to attract insects and ensure pollination occurs.

Not all flowers produce a scent that is appealing to humans. For example, although the fruit of the papaya plant tastes good, its flowers give off a scent similar to that of rotten flesh as this is what attracts the insects they require for pollination. Flowers that behave in this way are called carrion flowers.
