The Big Bang

Did you know?... Big Bang theory is based on the idea that the universe is continually expanding and cooling. It is currently the most popular explanation for how the universe began.

The theory was first suggested by Belgian priest Georges Lemaître in the 1920s. The idea was given further credance by the work of Edwin Hubble, who discovered other galaxies moving away from our own in all directions. This suggested the universe's expansion.
