About the event

As part of our digital #EdSciFest we're releasing a series of online entertainment, curated articles, and downloadable resources covering all the Science Festival favourites.

Below we have listed a few of our favourite films on the subject of climate change and the environmental crisis.

Will Moss, Communictions Officer at Edinburgh Science, recommends

Presented by environmental journalist George Monbiot, this documentary takes a look into the farming industry in the UK (and abroad, but mainly focussed on the UK), its contribution to the climate crisis and other environmental damage it causes. It’s pretty shocking, as it should be, but in contrast to other documentaries on the subject it offers some optimistic, modern solutions to get us out of the mess.

Very similar in theme to Apocalypse Cow, this documentary made by the BBC is again based around the meat industry but looks at it on a more global scale. Very shocking, once again, but it is fascinating in the highlighting the other environmental impacts it causes in different locations around the world. For example, the beef industry and the destruction of the Amazon rainforest in Brazil, or the devastating effect that the pork industry has had on rivers and waterways in the southern states of the USA.
