Collecting Shadows; An Archive of Modern Life

Exhibition: Friday 2 February – Sunday 8 AprilDisplay of submissions: Monday 9 – Sunday 15 April

In response to Stills’ Collected Shadows, The Archive of Modern Conflict exhibition, we are inviting individuals to create a new photographic archive using modern technology.

Collecting Shadows invites members of the public to take photographs on their mobile devices, recording shadows in their everyday lives.

"The picture… is but a succession or variety of stronger lights thrown upon one part of the paper, and of deeper shadows on another. Now Light, where it exists, can exert an action." - William Henry Fox Talbot

From the launch of the Science Festival people can submit their images via Instagram, by tagging them #stillscollectingshadows. Submissions will be accepted from the launch of the Festival until Saturday 7 April.

An exhibition of all submitted photographs will be on display from Monday 9 – Sunday 15 April. Hung directly on Stills window, passing audiences will be able to enjoy the images 24 hours a day.

Stills’ exhibition Collected Shadows, The Archive of Modern Conflict runs from Friday 2 February – Sunday 8 April 2018.
