Science Communicators/Event Supervisors

£9.90-£10.90 per hour (depending on role/duties) full-time/inc some weekends

Work hours: full-time/ short term contracts (project period)

Work location: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Dundee

 

We are looking for enthusiastic Science Communicators to join our Consumed Team from 12 July – 28 August!

About the role:

Are you outgoing, do you enjoy working with the public?  As a Science Communicator with Edinburgh Science, you will form part of the team ensuring the delivery of our interactive exhibit - Consumed.  You will be knowledgeable, helpful and confident in dealing with the public. Consumed is going to tour 5 venues across Scotland in partnership with Zero Waste Scotland – travel, accommodation and subsistence payed for locations outside of Edinburgh and Glasgow.

About you:

You are a confident presenter with good communication skills.  You are able to communicate clearly and confidently with colleagues/ members of the public and have the ability to remain calm under pressure.  You will be a quick learner, comfortable with scientific information.  Some experience working with the public is a must.   Previous experience in Science Communication is beneficial as is experience working in education or learning support and do tell us if you have a first aid qualification.  You will enjoy working as part of a team in a busy environment and ideally have some events/festival experience.  An enthusiasm and passion are key as is an ability to work hard during the exhibition tour.

We have a small number of more senior roles (event supervisors) to help co-ordinate the smooth running of Consumed.  You will have some management/supervisory experience with a confident, organised and proactive approach, ideally with previous Edinburgh Science or other events/festival experience for these more senior duties/roles.

Ideally you will be able to work full time for all the dates in the project period: 12 July – 28 August. There will be a mix of shorter and longer daily shifts available.

You will be required to attend the following mandatory training sessions:
