Vote for Generation Science to receive support from the RBS Skills & Opportunities Fund
Posted: 26 October 2016
Edinburgh International Science Festival’s flagship education programme, Generation Science, is the UK’s largest provider of science outreach education. Now in its 26th year, our engaging, fun and memorable STEM shows and workshops reach over 58,000 primary school pupils in Scotland each year.
This month, Generation Science was shortlisted to receive support from the RBS Skills & Opportunities Fund and bring inspiring science and technology workshops to local communities in disadvantaged areas of the country.
As an educational charity whose mission is to inspire people of all ages and backgrounds to discover the world around them, we are always looking for ways to reach people that are less likely to engage with our annual festival and education work, and to bring our high-energy STEM activities to their communities.
The RBS Skills & Opportunities Fund would allow us to deliver an enhanced programme of Generation Science activities to schools in disadvantaged communities in Alloa, Maryhill and Drumchapel in 2017.

As well as bringing our shows and workshops into local primary schools free of charge, the Fund will enable us to offer additional support activities to parents and teachers in these areas to build confidence in communicating and teaching STEM subjects in line with the Curriculum for Excellence, and fund outreach work with STEM industry volunteers to explore the real world applications of this learning.
