Professor Anna Williams

Professor Anna Williams runs a research group in the Centre of Regenerative Medicine at the University of Edinburgh, and is a consultant neurologist, with a busy multiple sclerosis clinic.  Her research group is interested primarily in how the myelin of the central nervous system repairs in diseases such as multiple sclerosis, with the ultimate aim of trying to improve this repair and therefore improve patient therapies.  This research uses a variety of laboratory models, including cell culture, co-culture, 3-dimensional slice cultures, in vivo rodent models of demyelination and work with human post mortem brains.  It also involves collaboration with chemistry and engineering to try and design better models and delivery systems for drugs to aid repair.
