That's a Wrap!

Over 16 days, the 33rd Edinburgh Science Festival explored the theme of One World: Science Connects Us. Despite the COVID-19 restrictions, we teamed up with over 120 speakers both online and in 30 venues across Edinburgh for a diverse programme of over 200 events, including outdoor exhibitions, tours and trails, workshops, discussions and family shows.

In a year where we celebrated the role of when in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) with our Women in STEM Street Art Trail, we are delighted that 60% of the artists and speakers who took part in our programme identify as women!

A massive thank you to headline sponsor Cirrus Logic, our 2021 Festival supporters and our programming partners for helping us put on such a successful Festival.

This year’s Festival may be over, but don’t worry – we’ve still got plenty science for you to enjoy! You can visit our Human Nature, This Is Engineering… But Not As You Know It and Road to Net Zero: Visions of a Low Carbon Future exhibitions in person until 21 July. You can also enjoy a Summer of Science, our programme of online activities that are perfect for keeping you and the family entertained over the summer holidays!

Edinburgh Science Festival 2022

Edinburgh Science Festival will return from Saturday 9 – Sunday 24 April 2022 with the theme of Revolutions.

Focusing on the power of circles and revolutionary approaches to everything from personal to planetary health – and with an unashamed emphasis on the urgency of tackling the climate crisis – the 2022 Festival will explore lifeforms, lifecycles and revolutionary science, technology, ideas and solutions to global challenges.

With a heartfelt call for a truly radical shift in the attitudes and behaviours of individuals, organisations and nations to combat the climate crisis and protect the delicately interconnected lifecycles and biodiversity of our planet and a special plea for the embracing of circular economies to help ensure a successful and sustainable future, EdSciFest 2022 aims to show how going round in circles can sometimes be a GOOD thing!
