Communicating with Confidence
This two-day course focuses on how to communicate effectively, with a heavy emphasis on public engagement and workshops. It is designed to equip participants with the skills to become effective science communicators and confident presenters. It also prepares attendees for working with the public and delivering events at a festival (or similar environment) including dealing with sticky situations and what to do if things go wrong.
Sci-Comm Essentials
This two-day condensed Science Communication course begins by focussing on basic presentation skills before moving on to training on the delivery of a specific event. We provide this course to train local communicators where one of our events is booked for a short run, but the modules included can be tailored to fit specific requirements.
Team Leader Training
This one-day course is designed for team leaders who will be training and supervising a team of science communicators as they deliver a workshop or exhibition. It covers the basics of being a team leader, defining the expectations for the role and focusing on some of the skills required to operate effectively, including how to motivate and lead others and how to resolve any issues that may arise.
Education Tour Training Day
This is a course for Science Communicators participating in a schools tour, providing them with information and skills to help them in all areas of their role as well as event specific rehearsals and touring inductions.
Directors’ Training
A course for directors who will be training Science Communicators for an education tour. It includes a condensed version of the Team Leader Training day, designed as a refresher for those who already have this experience, supplemented with training on the expectations of the role of a director. The course covers how to get communicators ‘tour ready’, achieving an engaging and professional style of event delivery, and focuses on peer-to-peer skills sharing and building on existing experience.
Please note: these training courses are run as a bespoke service for the training of multiple participants (and not on a regular schedule), and therefore we are currently unable to accommodate requests from individuals unfortunately.
