FAQs

Q. What is the Edinburgh International Science Festival?

A. First held in 1989, the Edinburgh International Science Festival is an annual celebration of science and technology organised by an educational charity. During its two-week run, the Festival features almost 300 events in various venues in and around Edinburgh. The programme varies annually, offering a variety of interactive activities, exhibitions and workshops, shows and performances, and talks, debates and discussions for children and families, teenagers and adults.

Q. When is the next Edinburgh International Science Festival?

A. The Science Festival in Edinburgh is held annually over the Easter break. The next Festival runs from 31 March–15 April 2018. The programme for the Festival will be announced in early 2018.

Q. I have an idea for an event. How can I get involved?

A. Each summer we run a Call for Ideas for the following year’s Festival and at this point people are invited to make submissions for the Festival. Information on our call is sent out through our website, newsletters and social media channels. Check out our Get Involved page for further information and to sign up to receive information about future calls.

Q. I would like to work at the Science Festival. When do you advertise vacancies?

A. Each year we advertise vacancies for Festival Front of House staff and Science Communicators. Vacancies are advertised in the months leading up to the Festival. All of our vacancies are advertised on our Jobs page. We also offer some work placements for students in full time higher education, see our Work Placements page for more details.

Q. I am interested in supporting your work. Where can I find out more?

A. As an educational charity we form various partnerships. See our Support Us section for further information about the types of partnership opportunities we have available as well as details of how you can get involved and support us.
